Origin

The dye is extracted from the root using solvents, resulting in a mixture of alkannin and its derivatives, such as acetylalkannin and isobutylalkannin. The exact composition can vary depending on the plant species and extraction method.

Usage

Alkannin has historically been used as a natural dye for textiles, cosmetics, and food. In food applications, it imparts a red to purple hue.
