À propos de cet additif

Origin

Fast Green FCF, also known as Food Green 3, is a synthetic triphenylmethane dye. It is derived from coal tar derivatives. It's a water-soluble dye used to impart a green color to food products. It is a relatively old synthetic food coloring.

Usage

Fast Green FCF is used as a food coloring agent in a variety of products, including canned peas, sauces, desserts, and other processed foods. It is also used in cosmetics and personal care products, as well as in some pharmaceutical applications as a coloring agent. It is often used in combination with other food colorings to achieve desired shades. The dye is stable under most food processing conditions. It is also used as a biological stain.

Side Effects

Fast Green FCF has been subject to safety evaluations by various regulatory bodies. While generally considered safe at permitted levels, some studies have raised concerns about potential adverse effects. Some individuals may experience allergic reactions to Fast Green FCF, although such reactions are rare. The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) has established an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) of 0-25 mg/kg body weight. High doses of triphenylmethane dyes have been shown to cause tumors in rats. However, the levels used in food are much lower. Regulatory bodies like the FDA and EFSA have established limits for its use in food to ensure consumer safety. It is not permitted for use in food in the European Union.
